With calm courage, he refused, saying that he would never forsake his Guru or his faith.

The governor then ordered that his hair, the sacred kesh of a Sikh, be cut off, hoping to break his spirit. Bhai Taru Singh Ji remained unmoved. He said that his hair was a gift from the Guru and that he would rather give up his life than part with it. The Mughal authorities then ordered that his scalp be removed. Even in the face of such brutal torture, Bhai Taru Singh Ji did not waver. He accepted the pain with the remembrance of the Guru on his lips.

It is said that after his scalp was removed, Bhai Taru Singh Ji remained conscious and continued to recite Gurbani. He attained martyrdom on the 1st of Harh, 1782 Bikrami (July 1745), at Lahore. His sacrifice became a shining example of unwavering faith and courage for generations of Sikhs.
