ਸ. ਕਰਤਾਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਰਾਭਾ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ 24 ਮਈ 1896 ਈਸਵੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਿੰਡ ਸਰਾਭਾ, ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਲੁਧਿਆਣਾ (ਪੰਜਾਬ) ਵਿਖੇ ਹੋਇਆ। ਆਪ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਸ. ਮੰਗਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਤਾ ਸ੍ਰੀਮਤੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੌਰ ਜੀ ਸਨ। ਬਚਪਨ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਜੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੇਸ਼-ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਧਰਮ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਗਹਿਰੀ ਸ਼ਰਧਾ ਸੀ। ਉੱਚ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਲਈ ਆਪ ਜੀ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਗਏ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਇੰਜੀਨੀਅਰਿੰਗ ਦੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਕੀਤੀ।

ਗ਼ਦਰ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ

ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਆਪ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਬਾਬਾ ਸੋਹਣ ਸਿੰਘ ਭਕਨਾ ਜੀ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੇਸ਼-ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਪਰਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਆ ਕੇ ਗ਼ਦਰ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਨਿਭਾਈ। ਇਸ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਉਦੇਸ਼ ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਸ਼ਾਸਨ ਤੋਂ ਭਾਰਤ ਨੂੰ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਕਰਵਾਉਣਾ ਸੀ। ਆਪ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਾਪਸ ਆ ਕੇ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਦੀ ਲਹਿਰ ਨੂੰ ਹਵਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਹਕੂਮਤ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਜਾਗਰੂਕ ਕੀਤਾ।

ਸ਼ਹੀਦੀ

ਗ਼ਦਰ ਲਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਗ੍ਰਿਫ਼ਤਾਰ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ। ਆਪ ਜੀ 'ਤੇ ਦੇਸ਼-ਵਿਰੋਧੀ ਗਤੀਵਿਧੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਦੋਸ਼ ਲਗਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ। 16 ਨਵੰਬਰ 1915 ਈਸਵੀ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਹੌਰ ਸੈਂਟਰਲ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਵਿਖੇ ਆਪ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਫਾਂਸੀ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ। ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਪ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਹੱਸਦੇ-ਹੱਸਦੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਲਈ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।

ਮਹੱਤਤਾ

ਸ. ਕਰਤਾਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਰਾਭਾ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਸੰਗਰਾਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਮਹਾਨ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਸਰੋਤ ਹੈ। ਆਪ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਿਖਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਦੇਸ਼ ਅਤੇ ਧਰਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਖੀ ਲਈ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਨਿਛਾਵਰ ਕਰਨਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਧਰਮ ਹੈ। ਹਰ ਸਾਲ 16 ਨਵੰਬਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਪ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਹੀਦੀ ਦਿਹਾੜਾ ਸ਼ਰਧਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਕਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਆਪ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੀ ਸਦਾ ਅਮਰ ਰਹੇਗੀ।

Martyrdom Day of S. Kartar Singh Sarabha

Shaheed Sardar Kartar Singh Sarabha Ji was born on 24 May 1896 in the village of Sarabha, District Ludhiana, Punjab. His father was S. Mangal Singh Ji and his mother was Smt. Sahib Kaur Ji. From childhood, he possessed a deep love for his country and profound devotion to the Sikh faith. For higher education, he traveled to America, where he studied engineering.

Contribution to the Ghadar Party

While living abroad, he came into contact with Baba Sohan Singh Bhakna Ji and other patriots, and became actively involved in the Ghadar Party. He dedicated himself to the cause of India's freedom, writing and distributing revolutionary literature to awaken the Indian diaspora and inspire them to rise against British colonial rule. His fiery speeches and writings stirred the spirit of rebellion among Indians both abroad and in India.

Return to India and Revolutionary Activities

In 1914, Kartar Singh Sarabha Ji returned to India to participate in the armed struggle for independence. He became a key figure in the Ghadar movement, coordinating efforts to incite mutiny within the British Indian Army and organizing revolutionary activities across Punjab. He worked closely with other revolutionaries such as Ras Bihari Bose and Vishnu Ganesh Pingle, and was involved in the planning of the February 1915 uprising.

Arrest and Martyrdom

The planned revolt was discovered by the British authorities, leading to widespread arrests. Kartar Singh Sarabha Ji was arrested and tried in the First Lahore Conspiracy Case. At the young age of 19, he was sentenced to death. On 16 November 1915, he was hanged at the Central Jail in Lahore, embracing martyrdom with extraordinary courage and serenity. His sacrifice became a beacon of inspiration for future generations of freedom fighters.

The martyrdom day of Sardar Kartar Singh Sarabha Ji is observed with deep reverence, especially in Punjab and among the Sikh diaspora.
